Santa Barbara Hillel Towbes  Student Leadership Board

The entire Student Leadership Board is made up of the Executive Team and the Committee Teams.  The Leadership Board will serve as a leadership community that supports one another and the greater Hillel community. Each Executive Team member will be working closely with a committee of students to co-create experiences for their peers. This team will work in partnership with the entire SB Hillel staff.

What type of student are we looking for to be on the Committee Teams?

We are looking for students who can work well in teams, who are interested in being a part of a leadership community and who are passionate about Jewish life at UCSB and SBCC. Joining a committee is for everyone, whether or not this is your first leadership position or your tenth. All that matters is you have the passion and desire to co-create Jewish experiences with and for your peers. 

What is involved in being on the Student Board?

Below are some of the general expectation of being on the student board, these are responsibilities of all board members. You will also be a chair or hold an executive position that will oversee an initiative or team. 

Expectations of all student board members:

  • Attend a Spring and Fall board retreat.

  • Participate in a weekly team meeting to envision and create vibrant Jewish life on campus.

  • Meet as a full board once a month for leadership development.

  • Collaborate with the other fellows in your team in addition to the rest of the members of the leadership board to develop exciting programs and opportunities for Jewish growth.

  • Engage and develop relationships with individual students each (especially through "coffee dates"), finding ways to bring in new people and engage them in meaningful activities based on their interests.

  • Make sure every student who comes to Hillel feels welcome and encouraged to participate.

  • Attend 5 Shabbats a quarter and actively sit with new students each week.

  • Serve as an ambassador/representative for SB Hillel to the greater UCSB/SBCC community

  • Encourage and uphold a high level of flexibility and professionalism

What positions are available?

Activities Team:

These individuals will work to offer an extensive array of programs that appeal to a wide range of student interests. Activities Fellows will be responsible for maintaining core successful programming (wellness, senior focused, on and off campus, and social)

as well as implementing new and creative ideas both in our building as well as on campus and the community.These individuals will work to offer an extensive array of programs that appeal to a wide range of student interests. Activities Fellows will be responsible for maintaining core successful programming (wellness, senior focused, on and off campus, Israel, and social) as well as implementing new and creative ideas both in our building as well as on campus and the community.

Jewish Life Team:

These individuals will be responsible for creating meaningful Jewish programs (including holidays, the Passover Cooking Club, S’mores in the Sukkah, Chanukah Party, etc.) and infusing Jewish learning and experiences into all existing Hillel programs. Jewish Life Fellows will also be responsible for coordinating set-up for Shabbat and for developing themes to enhance Shabbat dinner and services.

Tzedek and Community Outreach Team:

These individuals will be responsible for creating and coordinating community service projects as well as philanthropic events. This team will work to promote our own internal philanthropy projects (Manicure for the Cure, Care Packages for the Homeless, Blankets for Project Linus, etc.) as well as be the liaisons for participating in larger campus and community philanthropy projects. Additionally, this team will be responsible for coalition building – creating connections with other religious and cultural groups on campus (including interfaith and intercultural).

Marketing and PR Chair

The marketing and public relations chair will be responsible for all the marketing, social media, and print advertising for the Jewish Life, Tzedek and Community Outreach, and Activities teams. They will create and maintain a consistent Santa Barbara Hillel brand.
